Description

Traditional tow straps are supposed to be used by getting the strap tight first, and then pulling hard to get the vehicle unstuck. But as we know from actual use out on the trails, that doesn’t always provide enough force (or energy) to actually get a vehicle out when its stuck down deep or in tricky spot. Having the tow vehicle get a running start before they pull makes it easier by adding that extra energy from the vehicles momentum (aka kinetic energy).

With the traditional ropes, however, getting a running start can be dangerous. Single braid style ropes and straps are not designed for this and take all of their force at once. So when the tow vehicle is getting a running start and the strap eventually runs out of slack – it ‘snaps’ hard and all that energy is transferred to the stuck vehicle in one big shock.

If you’re lucky – that will pull the vehicle free. But that hard snap puts a lot of shock on the tow points and frame of both vehicles, and can cause damage.

If you’re NOT lucky – all that force being put on the strap at once is going cause it to literally snap, break, and then fly back towards both vehicles with a ton of force.

The Lil Mama Kinetic Tow Rope is the ultimate way to recover your UTV, SXS, or Lightweight Buggy. Unlike traditional tope ropes where you need to get the rope tight before you pull, a kinetic rope’s design allows you to get a running start with the recovery vehicle, and use the extra kinetic energy to pull it free. SpeedStrap’s design uses double braided nylon webbing with an inner core and outer cover, that creates two stages of tension that puts less shock load on the vehicles, while still pulling them free. While pulling, the rope stretches and builds up kinetic energy. Once the rope reaches it maximum stretch, it snatches back and releases that energy to pull the stuck vehicle out of the mud, sand, or snow. Want to learn more about how Kinetic Ropes work? – Click Here

Speedstrap’s Kinetic Tow Ropes are made to last. With a Water, UV, and Abrasion resistant coating to help your rope maintain its life even in the harsh off-road environment. The ropes also feature a built in black tracer in the webbing – that reflects light at night for high visibility. Both ends have a protective sheath around the hook up points to prevent abrasion. The rope can be attached to the vehicles with any soft or metal shackle. The Lil Mama also come with a convenient carry bag – that’s just big enough to hold the rope and a few soft shackles, but small enough to save space in your vehicle. Sold individually.

HOW DO KINETIC RECOVERY ROPES WORK?

Kinetic Ropes are designed specifically to be used with a running start. They are more elastic than traditional tow ropes, and typically stretch out up to 30% when pulled under load. The difference comes from how they are constructed. Our SpeedStrap Kinetic Ropes have an inner braid (core) and outer braid (cover) that stretch alongside each other to soften that blow and prevent hard jolts.

While you are getting a running start in your vehicle, the rope stretches and builds up kinetic energy. Once the rope reaches it maximum stretch, it snatches back smoothly and releases that energy to pull the stuck vehicle out of the mud, sand, or snow. The smooth and strong pull gets the vehicle free, but doesn’t put the stress of a hard jolt onto your tow bar, bumper, or axle.

DO KINETIC RECOVERY ROPES HAVE ANY DOWNSIDES?

In terms of performance, kinetic ropes are probably the best out there. The only downside are that they are larger and bulkier than traditional tow straps, so they take up more space in your UTV, Jeep, or truck. They also require a soft shackle or metal shackle to be attached to the vehicle, which in some cases can limit your use. For example, if your UTV rolls over on its side – you need to have a soft shackle to attach to the cage so you can pull it back over.

HOW FAST SHOULD I GO FOR A RUNNING START?

We recommend that you don’t go more than 5mph.

Yes, we’re serious: NO MORE THAN 5 MPH

The force of your vehicle’s weight times the kinetic force of 5mph is a lot more than you think. We all have seen the videos of a guy doing a kinetic pull at 40mph to pull out a truck. But do you remember how that ended?…. broken strap and broken windshield.

Keep it to a simple 5 mph, and if that doesn’t work, then you need to reevaluate your plan of attack.

  1. Make sure the tires are completely dug out
  2. Change the angle or direction that you are pulling
  3. Have a second vehicle assist in the pull
