First Ride Review: Testing the 2024 Polaris General XP 4 1000 Ultimate

Pushing the Limits: Our First Test Run of the 2024 Polaris General XP 4 1000 Ultimate

We recently took the 2024 Polaris General XP 4 1000 Ultimate out to an OHV area near us for its first test run. It was our first time behind the wheel of a bone stock Polaris General, so we ventured into uncharted territory to see what it could handle. Here’s how this machine stood up to the challenge.

2024 Polaris General XP4 1000 Ultimate: The Specs

Before we dive into our ride, let’s check out the specs. The Polaris General XP 4 1000 Ultimate is designed to be a versatile crossover side-by-side, great for both fun and utility work. Here's a quick rundown of what this machine offers:

First Impressions

From the moment we got into the driver's seat, the General XP 4 1000 felt super comfortable. The low bed and tilt bed feature, along with the tailgate, make it versatile for hauling gear. The interior is well-designed, with a nice dash and center console. The cup holders are just right, and the passenger grab bar is a nice touch.

Hitting the Trail: Smooth and Responsive

The first thing we noticed was how light and responsive the steering felt, even in four-wheel drive. As we picked up speed, the General handled turns smoothly, hugging the terrain. Despite the rough paths, we never found a high center point, which shows how good the ground clearance is.

The suspension was set three clicks up from soft, and it felt solid and stable. We even caught some air a few times, and the General landed smoothly, keeping its balance. It’s clear that Polaris has balanced comfort and performance well.

Interior Comfort and New Features

One of the standout features is the seatbelt height adjuster, which lets you customize the seatbelt position for comfort. This simple adjustment made a significant difference for our passenger, eliminating neck rub.

The low doors offer excellent visibility, allowing us to see exactly where our tires were going—a huge advantage on tricky trails. The General’s design evidently prioritizes the driver’s experience.

Rockford Fosgate Audio and Ride Command

We tested the Rockford Fosgate Stage 3 system, and it sounded great. The Ride Command system is easy to use, making it simple to navigate trails, set waypoints, and track our route. This feature is incredibly handy, especially since it was our first time visiting the OHV trails.

Final Thoughts: A Versatile Powerhouse

The 2024 Polaris General XP 4 1000 Ultimate has exceeded our expectations with its impressive versatility, comfort, and performance. Riding through the trails, we were thrilled by how responsive and smooth the General felt, handling tight turns and rugged terrain with ease. The powerful engine and stable suspension made steep climbs and descents feel effortless, while the comfortable interior kept us enjoying the ride. Every feature worked together and made the journey enjoyable for everyone.
